6 Hot Tips to Spice Up Your Relationship

You know all the age-old sayings about relationships (how many times have you heard "never go to bed angry"), but what about the slightly more risque words of wisdom?
Temperatures outside are rising, and it's time to turn up the heat in your relationship as well. A little effort to keep things spicy can go a long way: sometimes the smallest gesture can make your partner feel the love. From writing love notes to planning a couple's workout session, we did the research for you for tips on how to spice up your relationship.

1. Plan a Surprise Date Night: There’s something really romantic about surprising your S.O. with a fully planned date night. To make this happen, tell your partner a few weeks in advance to leave a random night of the week completely unscheduled. When the day rolls around, just tell your partner what to wear for the occasion and surprise him or her with the rest of the details. The surprising aspect can make even an ordinary date feel extra-special since you went out of your way to plan it! A few ideas: plan a picnic in the park with your partner’s favorite foods or a virtual wine tasting with a sommelier, complete with a full spread of appetizers for you to pair with your wine.

2. Write a Love Note: Yes, this sounds incredibly corny, but actually writing down your feelings for your partner and sharing it with them can be a really romantic gesture. They’ll be totally surprised by the love note, and will feel all the feels as they read it. Maybe they’ll write you one in return!

3. Unplug For the Night: It’s so easy to just binge-watch TV for hours every night (particularly in quarantine!). But you can break that routine completely by planning a fully unplugged night, where you and your partner spend quality time together with no phones, televisions, or devices of any kind. It may sound like a small thing (and many people strive to “unplug” every day), but having your partner all to yourself with no distractions is a great way to remind yourself why you love them so much in the first place!

4. Get Dressed Up: This has been a difficult one in quarantine, but the occasional outfit change from sweats is a simple way to add some excitement to the humdrum of daily routines! Try getting a little dolled up with a nice outfit and your favorite makeup look. This tip is for men too–a new cologne or fresh shave can help liven things up!

5. Workout Together: Working out boosts hormones that elevate your mood and libido. Try an online workout class or a yoga and meditation session with your beau. It’s a fun way to be present and reconnect after a hectic day or week of work!

6. Compliments Go a Long Way: When you've been with your partner for a long time, it's so easy to take them for granted. It’s important to tell your S.O. how good they look or what you love about them. Compliments not only make us feel good when we hear one, but we also feel acknowledged and desired by our partner!
